...The opening of the program is touring famous Beijing attractions. Touring of the magnificent architecture, landscape, history, and visiting nice restaurant is a nice way to start. After the class started, my daughters bonded with other students quickly. They would work with their friends to finish the home work assignments. There was once a group of us walking from the dorm to the campus supermarket, my daughter and her friends took the opportunity to enjoy the night view as well as recite/memorize a poem. I also liked our boarding arrangement. Tsinghua University overseas student dorm has clean and nice accommodations. Though there were some plumbing problems, they were trying their best to solve the problems. The University is a mixture of a historical Palace Garden and modern classroom buildings; therefore, it is also a Beijing attraction. I am impressed with the variety of food from the cafeteria, and the efficiency of the system. The touring information for parents is very handy, and it is very fascinating to explore and discover Beijing . Visiting local host family is another highlight of the program. Both my daughters enjoyed the hospitality from the local family. Counselors are very kind and attentive to students needs, and served the roles of big brothers and sisters to the students. Overall, it is a very nicely planned program, and my daughters learned so much from this camp. They not only learned Chinese, but also learned some finance lessons from the shopping trips, i.e. bargaining experiences. Thank you for the program. It will be the memory of a lifetime to all of us. Kit's experience exceeded all of our expectations. He feels that his speaking and listening skills improved so that he can understand much conversational Chinese... "...Coming to a country that you don't know the language and alive alone could be very difficult. But if you are a social and friendly person, it's easy... So I protect him from any danger. I actually like it when I feel I'm a big brother... Learning Chinese in Beijing is good because people here don't speak English well so you try to speak Chinese, and have a good reason to learn. I would recommend people who wants to learn a foreign language go to the country and find both pressure and interest from the surroundings that push you to learn. "...Even though the computer are slower than the one I used at home, I like emailing my friends about my experiences in China, because none of them has ever visited Asia before. ...In the evening we had Chinese conversation with local students. She also taught me the Chinese words of family members and parts of houses and buildings. I'm ready to stamp my name on everything...

"Now I finally respect sculptors and artists of their crafts for being much more adroit in their carvings. Trying to carve my name into stone as a method to create an ancient Chinese stamp, I saw every scratch mistake magnified and every chisel rough. Without the instructor I would have been stamping something ugly and totally inaccurate. But having finally engraved it, I'm ready to stamp my name on everything." The strokes of paint had to be smooth and delicate, and I feared my mask would look too Kabuki-ish. So after dabbling with colors of black, white, blue, and red, I managed to form a mask that was mildly intimidating to mostly humiliating. It was quite a challenge but I enjoyed the idea of covering my face with culture.
